Test Setup

We'll compare your results to average hearing for your age

Volume Calibration

Click the button to play a calibration tone. Set your volume to a comfortable level where you can clearly hear the tone.

What different frequency ranges sound like

20-250 Hz (Low/Bass): Deep rumble, bass instruments, thunder
250-2000 Hz (Midrange): Most musical instruments, human voice
2000-8000 Hz (High-Mid): Clarity, presence, consonants
8000-20000 Hz (High): Air, shimmer, cymbals - often lost with age

Understanding Age-Related Hearing Loss

As we age, we naturally lose the ability to hear high frequencies (presbycusis). Most adults over 50 cannot hear above 15 kHz. This is completely normal and not necessarily a concern unless accompanied by difficulty understanding speech or other symptoms.

When to see an audiologist

  • Difficulty understanding speech, especially in noisy environments
  • Ringing in ears (tinnitus) that persists
  • Sudden hearing loss in one or both ears
  • Significant difference between left and right ear hearing
  • Pain or discomfort in the ears
